Frequently Asked Questions

Why did I receive an email message with my customer number?

If you received one email message with your customer number, it is possible that someone entered the wrong information while in the Account Assistance. This may have triggered the system to send your customer number to you, instead of that person getting their customer number sent to them. In this instance, you may simply ignore the email message.

However, if you receive multiple copies of this message in succession, someone may be trying to gain access to your account. In this case, we strongly encourage you to log in to your account, confirm that your information is correct, and update your password to prevent any unauthorized access to your account.

What is a domain name?

Domain names were created to make IP, or Internet Protocol, addresses more human-friendly. An IP address is a unique set of numbers that is assigned to every computer on the Internet. Think of IP addresses like street addresses – they identify where a computer is located on the Internet and help route information so that it can easily travel between computers. But IP addresses, like this one, don’t exactly roll of your tongue, do they?

And then just imagine having to memorize such a string of – seemingly random numbers for every single website you wanted to find on the Internet. If only there was an easier way. Actually, there is.

While computers require IP addresses to locate one another, we humans can use domain names. The Domain Name System, or DNS [D-N-S], takes domain names — the kind of web addresses that people understand, like goddaddy.com — and translates them into IP addresses that computers need to communicate. So instead of 97.74.104.218, you can simply remember godaddy.com. Much easier, right?

When visitors enter your domain name into a Web browser, the browser uses your domain name to find the correct IP address and, in turn, passes back the website associated with that IP address.

Think of it this way; your domain name functions like the contacts you store in your mobile phone. When you touch the name of a contact that’s stored in your mobile phone, your mobile phone automatically dials the number you’ve saved for that contact. You don’t need to know where the person you’re calling is located, and you don’t need to even enter their specific phone number. All you do is touch the contact and mobile phone does the rest.

Remember, domain names provide you with a simple, human-friendly way to locate websites on the Internet.

Why should I register more than one domain name?

If you’re thinking about registering more than one domain name, you’ve got the right idea. Registering and using multiple domains names is great for building your business, protecting your brand name, and creating a dynamic online identity.

When you register multiple domain names, you can:

  • Keep your competition from registering a similar domain name drawing customers to them instead of you
  • Promote the different products and services you offer
  • Drive more traffic to your website
  • Enjoy more opportunities to market to — and be listed in — search engines
  • Create distinct advertising strategies reaching different target markets
  • Provide customers more ways to find you when searching the Internet
  • Capture common misspellings of your domain name, instead of sending visitors to an error page
  • Protect your brand and online identity

Do your email accounts have virus protection?

Yes. Our email accounts include our state-of-the-art Virus Protection system that automatically blocks infected email message attachments that may damage your computer with destructive viruses. Virus scanning occurs every time our servers receive an incoming attachment. Virus Protection is in place for Workspace Webmail, POP, and IMAP accounts so that any email messages containing an infected attachment are blocked.

What is the difference between Email and Email Forwarding?

Email forwarding and email are two different services we offer for retrieving your email. Email enables you to send, receive, and access your email from Web-Based Email or using a client application. Email forwarding allows you to direct incoming messages from one email address to another email address. When an email message is sent to your forwarded email address, our mail servers redirect the message to the email address you specify.

Email messages sent to your email forwarding account are not stored on our servers, but are simply forwarded.

You cannot setup the same email address for both an email account and an email forwarding account. For example, if you create an email account for email@coolexample.com then you cannot also create an email forwarding account for email@coolexample.com. The address can only be used for one of these services at a time.

If you would like to take advantage of the features of a regular email account, but would still like to receive a second copy of your messages at different email address, you can use the carbon copy feature.
